Solve-a-Thon 2026 is a National 24-Hour Hackathon organised by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, School of Science & Technology (SST), Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU), Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Built around the theme "AI for Sustainable Development Goals (AI for SDGs)", the hackathon brings together student innovators, programmers, AI/ML enthusiasts, developers, researchers, and multidisciplinary problem-solvers from across India to build technology-driven solutions for real-world challenges aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Who Should Apply The hackathon is open to eligible students participating through their institutions, with an interest or background in programming, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, software development, or emerging technologies. Participants from multidisciplinary backgrounds are encouraged to form teams that combine technical and domain perspectives. Each team must consist of 3 to 5 members, nominate one Team Leader responsible for official communication and submissions, and may include one mentor whose details are submitted to the Organizing Committee during registration.
Tracks / Themes Participants can develop solutions under any of the following themes: AI for Healthcare (diagnostics, patient support, health monitoring, preventive care, accessibility); AI for Education (personalised learning, assessment, educational accessibility, student engagement); AI for Climate Action (environmental sustainability, monitoring, resource optimisation, climate resilience); AI for Agriculture (smart farming, crop monitoring, decision support, food security); AI for Smart Cities (public services, mobility, infrastructure, resource management, citizen services, safety); AI for Governance (public services, citizen engagement, administrative processes, transparency, data-driven decision-making); AI for Clean Water (water quality, conservation, contamination, distribution, sustainable water management); and an Open Theme for innovative ideas outside the listed areas.
Format & Timeline Solve-a-Thon follows a two-stage process. Round 1 is an online screening round: registered teams submit their problem statement using the prescribed HIMOVATION 2026 template within the announced deadline, and an evaluation panel shortlists eligible teams. Round 2 is the main offline 24-hour hackathon held on 27–28 November 2026 at SRHU, Dehradun, beginning with an orientation covering guidelines, rules, schedule, and evaluation criteria. Teams then move through coding and development, progress review, overnight development, final submission, presentation and demonstration, and final evaluation, with technical guidance and mentoring provided during the build phase. At least 50% of each team must remain present in the Hackathon Arena throughout the event, and mandatory progress reviews are conducted. Running tea and snacks during the daytime plus dinner are provided; separate rest areas are available for male and female participants. Projects may be evaluated on innovation and originality, problem/theme relevance, technical implementation, use of AI or emerging technology, feasibility and practical applicability, social/environmental impact, scalability, prototype quality, presentation and demonstration, and teamwork and understanding.
Prizes The total cash prize pool for Solve-a-Thon 2026 is ₹93,000, split as ₹51,000 for 1st prize, ₹31,000 for 2nd prize, and ₹11,000 for 3rd prize. Winners also receive Certificates of Achievement.
