About this subsidy
SC/ST women in Puducherry can get a subsidy of 75% of an electric auto's cost or ₹3,00,000, whichever is less, after Central Government incentives such as Pradhan Mantri E-DRIVE (FAME-3) are used. The Adi Dravidar Welfare and Scheduled Tribes Welfare, Government of Puducherry, runs the scheme. It covers the auto itself, not extra accessories. You must keep the vehicle and not sell, lease or transfer it for 5 years. If you break this, you repay the subsidy with interest.

What You Get
This scheme offers a significant financial benefit in the form of a subsidy for purchasing an electric auto. Beneficiaries will receive 75% of the total cost of the electric auto or ₹3,00,000, whichever is less, after first utilizing Central Government incentives like the Pradhan Mantri E-DRIVE (FAME-3) Scheme, which provides up to ₹50,000. The subsidy amount is calculated based on the electric auto's cost, excluding extra accessories. Disbursement varies based on purchase status: if the vehicle is already bought, the subsidy is credited to the beneficiary's account upon submission of the original invoice. If not, the applicant pays 25% of the cost to the dealer, and the remaining subsidy is credited directly to the authorized dealer’s account. Post-selection, beneficiaries are obligated to retain documents for 5 years and are restricted from selling, leasing, or transferring ownership of the vehicle for the same period. Violation of these terms will require repayment of the subsidy with interest.

Selection Process
All submitted applications are initially reviewed by a designated Welfare Inspector to confirm eligibility against the scheme's criteria. Only applications deemed eligible proceed to the Selection Committee for further consideration. The selection process is publicized through advertisements in leading daily newspapers (both English and regional languages like Tamil, Telugu, or Malayalam) to ensure transparency and wide reach. Eligible applicants are primarily selected based on their seniority in age, following a first-come-first-served approach. In instances where the number of applications exceeds 50 within a year, an alternative selection method involving drawing lots may be employed. This lottery process is conducted transparently, in the presence of at least three applicants, to ensure fairness. Post-selection, the list of beneficiaries will be uploaded to the Urban Development Housing portal to prevent any duplication of benefits with other ongoing schemes. The Registering Authority will also implement a block on the vehicle's ownership transfer in the Transport Department's VAHAN software for a period of 5 years, enforcing the post-selection obligations.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is eligible for Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s Electric Auto (e-Auto) Subsidy Scheme?
The scheme is open to women belonging to the Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe community in the Union Territory of Puducherry. Applicants must be permanent residents of Puducherry, aged between 18 and 45 years, and possess a valid driving license for operating an electric auto. The combined annual income of the applicant and her spouse must not exceed ₹2,00,000. Additionally, applicants must not have previously received similar subsidies from other government schemes for the same purpose, and only one person per family can avail this benefit.
What is the maximum subsidy amount provided by this scheme?
The scheme offers a subsidy of up to 75% of the total cost of the electric auto or ₹3,00,000, whichever is less. This amount is disbursed after the applicant has utilized any applicable Central Government incentives, such as the Pradhan Mantri E-DRIVE (FAME-3) Scheme, which can provide a maximum subsidy of ₹50,000.
How is the subsidy disbursed to beneficiaries?
The disbursement process depends on whether the beneficiary has already purchased the vehicle. If the vehicle has been purchased, the applicant must submit the original invoice, and the subsidy amount will be credited directly to their bank account. If the vehicle has not yet been purchased, the applicant is required to make an initial payment of 25% of the total cost to the dealer, after which the subsidy amount will be credited directly to the authorized dealer’s account.
Are there any conditions or obligations after receiving the subsidy?
Yes, beneficiaries must adhere to certain obligations. The electric auto must be driven only by the beneficiary, and male drivers are not permitted. All relevant documents pertaining to the vehicle and subsidy must be retained for a period of 5 years from the date of disbursement. Furthermore, the beneficiary is prohibited from selling, leasing, or transferring ownership of the vehicle for these 5 years. Any false information or violation of these terms may result in the full subsidy amount being returned to the Government or recovered with interest.
What is the application and selection process for the scheme?
Interested applicants must download and print the prescribed application form. After filling in all mandatory fields and attaching self-attested copies of required documents, applications should be submitted offline to the relevant departmental office (Director for Puducherry region, Assistant Director for Karaikal and Yanam, Regional Administrator for Mahe). Applications are reviewed by a Welfare Inspector and eligible candidates are selected by a committee based on seniority in age on a first-come-first-served basis. If more than 50 applications are received in a year, a lot drawing process, observed by at least three applicants, may be used for selection. Following selection, applicants must apply for the Central Government subsidy (e.g., FAME-3) before the state subsidy is finally disbursed.
