About this grant
The 2026 application window for the Mama Cash Solidarity Fund is closed. It ran from 1 April to 30 April 2026. The official page does not announce a date for the next round, so check it before planning. This fund is only for women's funds, not for startups or general NGOs, so read the eligibility below before you invest time in an application.
Mama Cash, based in Amsterdam, describes itself as the world's first international women's fund. It launched the Solidarity Fund in early 2020 as a dedicated pot of money for strengthening other women's funds, and says it was designed by women's funds for women's funds. The page we read lists no country restriction, so an Indian women's fund can apply.
What the program offers
The page lists a grant of €30,000 to €40,000 (about ₹32.7 lakh to ₹43.6 lakh) for one year. The money is for the fund's own organisational needs, chosen by the fund itself. Examples on the page include leadership transitions, learning and evaluation systems, collective care for staff, financial resilience and digital security. The grant cannot be used for re-granting; that is covered by Mama Cash's separate Resilience Fund. It also cannot support work that denies the rights of women, girls, trans and intersex people, individuals, political parties, government agencies or religious institutions.
Who can apply
Only women's funds can apply. That means organisations whose main work is raising money and giving grants to groups, collectives and individuals defending the rights of women, girls, trans and intersex people. To qualify, a fund must be:
- self-led by the women, girls, trans and/or intersex people it serves;
- feminist, with a primary mission of supporting those groups' rights and a strategy to challenge unjust power structures; and
- autonomous, meaning it is not a programme of a larger entity, or it has concrete plans to become autonomous within two to three years.
Membership of Prospera, the International Network of Women's Funds, is not required, and new and emerging funds are welcome. Funds that received a grant before may apply again. Each fund may submit only one proposal, alone or as part of one collaboration; regional Prospera chapters are exempt from this limit.
This suits Indian women's funds and community foundations that make grants to women's, girls' and gender-justice groups. It does not suit startups, direct-service NGOs, or funds that are a unit of a larger organisation with no plan to separate.
How to apply
Applications are sent by email, not through a web form. You send a filled-in application form or a video recording, plus a budget form. The forms are available in English, Spanish and French, and Mama Cash can arrange translation for proposals in other languages if you ask before applying. A practical tip: since your peers will read a two-page proposal, say clearly what the grant will change inside your fund and why it matters now.
How applications are judged and what happens next
Decisions are made by other women's funds, through participatory grantmaking. Any eligible women's fund, including applicants, may take part in reviewing, though it is not required. Reviewers tell Mama Cash by email before the window closes and commit to reviewing at least 10 proposals of up to two pages each, assigned at random. Each reviewer has 20 points to give to the proposals they want to support and writes two to three sentences on each. Proposals are scored on three things: how the grant builds the fund's skills, knowledge and resources and its autonomy; how important and timely the work is; and its contribution to solidarity and movement building. Reviewers also consider geographic diversity. The scores are added up, shared with applicants with the final ranking, and the highest-ranked applicants receive grants.
About Mama Cash

Things to check before you apply
- The page gives two different grant sizes and two different window months; confirm both with Mama Cash.
- Indian funds that receive foreign money should check FCRA, FEMA and tax treatment with an adviser.
- Deciding to be a reviewer takes real time, at least 10 proposals, so plan capacity.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who can apply to the Mama Cash Solidarity Fund?
Only women's funds: self-led, feminist, autonomous organisations that raise money and make grants to groups, collectives and individuals defending the rights of women, girls, trans and intersex people. A fund that is not yet autonomous can apply if it has concrete plans to become so within two to three years.
Can an Indian women's fund apply?
The page we read lists no country restriction, so a women's fund based in India that meets the criteria can apply. Indian organisations should check FCRA, FEMA and tax treatment of foreign funding with an adviser.
How much is the grant?
The page's key information lists €30,000 to €40,000 (about ₹32.7 lakh to ₹43.6 lakh) for one year. Its FAQ mentions €30,000 each, so confirm the amount with Mama Cash.
What can the grant be spent on?
On the fund's own organisational needs, such as leadership transitions, learning and evaluation systems, collective care for staff, financial resilience or digital security. It cannot be used for re-granting.
Do we need to be a member of Prospera?
No. Membership of Prospera, the International Network of Women's Funds, is not required, and nascent and emerging funds are welcome.
Is the Solidarity Fund open now?
No. The 2026 window ran from 1 to 30 April 2026. The page does not announce a next window, though one FAQ answer says the window is usually in February or March, which does not match, so confirm with Mama Cash.
How do we apply?
By email: a filled-in application form or a video recording, plus a budget form, in English, Spanish or French. Mama Cash can arrange translation for other languages if you ask.
Who decides who gets the grant?
Other women's funds do. Reviewers read at least 10 proposals of up to two pages, give points and short comments, and the highest-ranked applicants receive grants.
Can we use it for re-granting?
No. Re-granting is covered by Mama Cash's Resilience Fund, not the Solidarity Fund.
Can a fund that was funded before apply again?
Yes. Funds that received a grant before may apply again, but each fund can submit only one proposal.
