Work out which door you are knocking on

KIIF has no general "apply for incubation" form. There are three separate routes and they have nothing to do with each other: a programme intake such as WEnnovate when one is open, a funding scheme from the funding page, or a plain enquiry to the shared inbox. Decide which one fits before you write anything.

Check the scheme is actually open to you

Of the four schemes KIIF lists, two are applied for through KIIF's own forms and two send you to a government portal. Two are also restricted by geography or enrolment: the Gujarat student policy is for students up to 35 at a Gujarat institution, and the Start-up Gujarat policy needs a registered office in Gujarat and a period of pre-incubation or incubation at a nodal institute first. If neither applies to you, the KIIF-run route is the Ministry of Electronics and IT's GENESIS programme, which is aimed at ideation, validation and early-stage technology startups, with a ceiling on how much outside funding you can already have raised.

What the programme calls have asked for

WEnnovate 2.0 set out its eligibility plainly: national startup recognition, incorporation within the previous two years, a tech-driven business, and at least one woman co-founder. It listed the sectors it wanted — artificial intelligence, robotics and autonomous systems, drones, climate and clean energy, energy storage, advanced manufacturing, industrial internet of things, health-tech and diagnostics, bio-innovation, extended reality, gaming, and immersive learning. If you cannot show recognition and incorporation dates, you are not eligible for that kind of call, so get the recognition in place before an intake opens rather than during it.

Lead with what you will build on campus

KIIF's real advantage is the university's making facilities — 3D printing, machining, electronics and robotics, extended reality, and the design school's material workshops. An application that says which workshop it needs and what it will come out with reads very differently from one that asks for desk space. If your work is purely software, say what else you want from KIIF instead, because the labs will not be the reason you are selected.

Expect selection to end in a pitch

WEnnovate's first edition ran as outreach, then a selected cohort over several weeks, then a finale where startups pitched to incubators and investors. The defence challenges worked the same way, ending in demo days in front of serving officers and in field trials. Prepare for a live demonstration and questions from people who will use the thing, not just a written form.

Write to the shared inbox on the contact page, or call the number listed there, and ask what the next intake is and whether pre-incubation through Arambh is running. Note that several pages on the site — its questions, careers and partners pages among them — are unedited template pages, so do not take anything on them as a real offer or a real contact.

Karnavati Innovation and Incubation Foundation (KIIF) is the incubator of Karnavati University, on the university's campus at Uvarsad in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. It calls itself a design-business incubator that brings design, technology and business together, and says it works with students, innovators, technocrats and startups. It also runs a defence vertical from the same campus, the Defence Design & Technology Incubator of India, for teams building for the armed forces.

What KIIF does

KIIF's own summary of its offer is infrastructure, mentorship, legal and business consulting, help finding government and private funding, industry and institutional introductions, and desks and labs to work from. Its stated focus areas are electronics and robotics, artificial intelligence and machine learning, augmented and virtual reality, design tech, cybersecurity, industrial design, IT and IT-enabled services, clean-tech, fintech and health-tech. The defence vertical adds aerospace and defence.

Most of what KIIF publishes is programme-shaped rather than an always-open incubation intake. WEnnovate is its programme for women-led startups. The defence vertical has run two editions of a Defence Innovation Challenge, each ending in a Defence Demo Day where startups showed working technology to serving officers, plus field trials. Arambh is a pre-incubation drive for early-stage founders and student innovators. Alongside these it runs an IDE Boot Camp for first-time founders, takes part in the Hack this Fall hackathon, and hosts an Expert Talks series on artificial intelligence, robotics, fintech, health-tech, defence innovation and entrepreneurship. It publishes a monthly newsletter, Innovate@KIIF, with editions running to August 2026.

Who can apply

Both outside founders and Karnavati University students, but not to the same things. KIIF's startup page keeps two separate lists, one of companies it says it has supported and one of student ventures, and its own description of who it serves puts students and outside startups side by side. The clearest published eligibility test is the one WEnnovate 2.0 used: a tech-driven startup recognised under the national startup recognition scheme, incorporated within the previous two years, with at least one woman co-founder. Nothing there requires a link to the university.

Two of the funding routes KIIF lists are narrower. The Gujarat Student Startup and Innovation Policy is only for students up to 35 at a Gujarat school, college or university. The Start-up Gujarat Policy requires the startup to be registered and operating in Gujarat, with a registered office certificate from the state, and expects one to two months of pre-incubation or incubation at a nodal institute first. If you are outside Gujarat, those two are closed to you whatever KIIF can offer.

It is worth being precise about what KIIF administers. It says it is recognised by Startup India and implements the Startup India Seed Fund Scheme. Its funding page then explains four schemes: that seed fund scheme, the Ministry of Electronics and IT's GENESIS programme, the Gujarat student policy, and the Start-up Gujarat policy. Only two of those four are applied for through KIIF itself — GENESIS and the Gujarat student policy each have a KIIF application form. The seed fund scheme sends you to the national seed fund portal, and the Start-up Gujarat policy sends you to the state's own startup portal. Describing a scheme is not the same as running it, and KIIF's page does not claim to be a nodal institute under the Gujarat policies.

Facilities

KIIF's own space is co-working: flexible workstations and private offices, wired and wireless internet, meeting rooms and conference halls with audio-visual kit, and printing and scanning. The long list of workshops and labs is the university's, and KIIF describes it as access rather than as its own equipment. That access covers a 3D printing and digital fabrication centre, an artificial intelligence lab, a robotics lab, a computing and cybersecurity lab, an audio and video editing centre and an augmented and virtual reality lab, plus the design school's making workshops — metal and computer-controlled machining, wood, ceramics, leather, jewellery, weaving, knitting, printing and dyeing, sewing, pattern making, and an automotive clay studio for car model prototyping. For a hardware or design-led team that combination is the real reason to be here; for a pure software team it matters less.

Mentors

KIIF publishes a mentor list of 66 people, split into industry mentors and ecosystem enablers. The industry side is mostly founders, chief executives and functional specialists, with a chartered accountant, a practising company secretary and people from a large professional services firm. The ecosystem side is unusual in being drawn from other incubators and foundations rather than from KIIF alone, including Gujarat University's startup council, an incubator at Savli, a technology business incubator, a bio-incubator and a skills foundation. A separate list on its resources page adds Karnavati University faculty from the design, technology and dentistry schools.

Who runs it

KIIF names a small in-house team on its about page: Brinda Pandya as head of department, Dr. Srinadh Mattaparthi as senior manager, Nehal Prajapati as manager, Jignesh Thakor as manager for operations and Sandip Takwani as assistant manager. No board, founding year or director list is published.

How to apply

There is no general incubation application form on the site and no applications page. In practice you either apply to a named funding scheme from the funding page, or you apply to a programme intake when KIIF advertises one — the WEnnovate 2.0 call ran to a late-April 2026 closing date and was advertised on the homepage. Outside an open call, the honest route is the contact page: KIIF publishes a phone number, an extension on the university switchboard and a shared inbox, and the address is the Karnavati University campus on Uvarsad-Vavol Road, Gandhinagar.
