About this grant
The 2026 round of the Unity for Humanity Grant is closed: applications shut on 20 February 2026 at 11:59 pm Pacific Time. Unity's official page says applications will open again in 2027, without giving exact dates, and it points visitors to a Social Impact mailing list for news of the next call. The grant is Unity's yearly open call for impact-driven projects made with real-time 3D (RT3D), and it is open to teams worldwide, including India, so this page is a guide to preparing for the 2027 round.
What the program offers
Unity's call for 2026 described a pool of US$600,000 (about ₹5.7 crore) shared across multiple projects. The pool and the per-project split are stated in Unity's call announcement, not on the main grant page, which only says winners receive "a financial contribution". Besides money, winners get a small amount of technical help from Unity Professional Services, to be used within one year, plus bespoke marketing and mentorship support. Optional events and co-marketing tools are also offered. Every submission is added to a database that Unity uses to match projects to other opportunities during the year, so even an unsuccessful entry can be seen by Unity teams.
The grant supports development or expansion of your RT3D impact project. Recipients must send an annual form confirming how the funds were used.
Who can apply
Impact-driven projects of any genre (a game, an XR experience, a film or another solution) made with Unity can apply. "Impact" here means supporting one or more of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The project must already be in production beyond the concept stage, with a prototype or demo, and it must be charitable in nature. Unity does not accept projects that promote hate, violence, bullying, harassment, threats or illegal content.
Grants cannot go to an individual. You apply through a studio, a nonprofit or another legal entity, and if you have no nonprofit partner Unity can point you to fiscal sponsors. Each individual or entity can send only one application. A project that already won a Unity for Humanity Grant cannot receive more funding, though you can apply with a new project; a project that did not win may reapply if it still meets the rules. Applicants from places under US sanctions are excluded, and Unity lists the Crimea region of Ukraine, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan and Syria.
For an applicant based in India this is an international call, not an India-only scheme. An Indian game studio, a registered nonprofit or a company building a Unity-based learning, health or climate experience is a good fit. A solo hobbyist with only an idea, or a project with no Unity element, is not.
How to apply
You fill in the Unity for Humanity Grant application form in English. You add a video sample or trailer (subtitled if the project is not in English), answer short essay questions about your project's themes, motivation and goals, and can optionally attach a pitch deck. Nothing more is needed after submitting; Unity contacts you by the email on file if it needs more information. Unity does not give deadline extensions.
A practical tip: Unity publishes examples from past winners and a free "Unity for Humanity: Guide for Creators" course on Unity Learn. Both are worth reading before you write your answers.
How applications are judged and what happens next
Unity employees from several teams and the Unity for Humanity program managers review the projects, and representatives of a partner organisation join when a grant is run with one. Each project is scored on four equally weighted criteria, 25% each. Vision asks why the project matters and whether the idea is clear and motivating. Impact looks for measurable goals tied to the SDGs. Inclusion looks at diversity in the team and audience, and at accessible distribution. Viability checks for realistic production goals and a budget that suits the scope. The 2026 winners have been announced.

Things to check before you apply
- Watch for the 2027 call; the dates are not announced, so do not plan around a guess.
- Make sure your legal entity is ready. Grants are not made to individuals.
- Have a working prototype or demo and a subtitled video before the call opens.
- The funds come with a duty to report on their use each year.
- If you receive money from abroad, an Indian nonprofit or company should check the tax and foreign-contribution treatment with an adviser.

Winners get a small amount of technical help from Unity Professional Services, usable within one year, plus bespoke marketing and mentorship support. Unity also offers optional events and co-marketing tools.
