Kartavya 2026 is a national-level sustainable case study competition organised by Team Sustainability, Department of Management Studies, Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra. Built around the
theme "Today's Problem. Tomorrow's Solution.", the competition gives college students across India a platform to identify real-world problems, conduct meaningful research, and develop innovative, sustainable solutions. Who Should Apply Open to college students across India enrolled at recognised colleges and universities. Students from all academic disciplines are welcome. Cross-college, cross-year and cross-specialisation teams are permitted, and individual participation is allowed. Each participant may be part of only one team. Format & Timeline The competition runs across three rounds. Round 1 is an online quiz held on 26 September 2026, covering management fundamentals, sustainability, business awareness and current affairs; the quiz stays open for a 24-hour window and results are announced by 27 September 2026. Round 2 is a case synopsis round from 28–30 September 2026, where teams pick a real-world problem related to sustainability, business, social impact or environmental challenges and submit a 3–5 slide synopsis through Unstop covering the chosen problem, key research and insights, analysis, proposed solution and expected impact. Round 3 is a live final presentation on 3 October 2026 at CAT Hall, BIT Mesra, where shortlisted teams present before a panel of judges followed by a Q&A session. Teams may optionally support their case with a physical model, prototype, working model, product mock-up or visual display. Evaluation Criteria Teams are judged on problem understanding, research and analysis, innovation, feasibility, sustainability and impact, and communication and presentation. Participants are expected to conduct primary and/or secondary research, and any plagiarism or misrepresentation may lead to disqualification. Prizes The winner receives ₹5,000 plus a certificate, the first runner-up ₹3,000 plus a certificate, and the second runner-up ₹2,000 plus a certificate — a total cash prize pool of ₹10,000.
