The Road Safety Hackathon 2026 is organised by the Centre of Excellence for Road Safety (CoERS), RBG Labs, and IIT Madras, targeting participants from BIMSTEC countries (Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Thailand). The theme is “AI in Road Safety”, encouraging the development of AI chatbot-based solutions. Indian participants are directed to a separate national track.
Who Should Apply
Students, engineers, and problem solvers from BIMSTEC countries (excluding India) passionate about road safety and AI. Minimum age 15. No professional qualifications required.
Tracks / Themes
Participants choose one of three topics:
- DriveLegal: Location-specific traffic law and fine information tool.
- RoadWatch: Citizen monitoring of road quality and public spending.
- RoadSoS: Emergency location-based services for accidents.
Format & Timeline
- Stage 1: Submit source code, a 7-slide presentation, software list, and database (if applicable) via Unstop by June 30, 2026.
- Stage 2: Shortlisted teams present to a live jury at IIT Madras campus (date TBD).
Prizes
Total cash prize pool of ₹1,00,000 distributed among three winners. All Stage 1 qualifiers receive participation certificates. Selected participants may be considered for job/internship opportunities.
Eligibility
Open to individuals or teams of 1–10 members from BIMSTEC countries (Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Thailand). Indian participants must register via the national track link provided.
