About this subsidy
Under the Jammu & Kashmir Film Policy 2021, a producer shooting their first film in the UT can claim a production subsidy pegged to how much of the shoot happens locally:
- Minimum 50% of total shooting days in J&K — up to ₹1 crore, or 25% of the total Cost of Production (COP), whichever is lower
- Minimum 75% of total shooting days in J&K — up to ₹1.5 crore, or 25% of COP, whichever is lower
The 25%-of-COP test binds alongside the rupee cap, so a modest-budget film draws the percentage rather than the headline figure. Shooting-day records are the core evidence for the claim, which makes the location schedule a financing decision as much as a creative one.
