About this subsidy
Under the J&K Poultry Policy 2020, commercial layer and broiler farms with a rearing capacity of more than 10,000 birds that undertake substantial expansion anywhere in J&K qualify for an interest incentive on working capital.
The incentive is 3% on working capital credit advanced by scheduled commercial banks, financial institutions and similar lenders, and it runs for the first five years from the date of commencement of commercial production.
Poultry is a feed-cost business with a short, cash-hungry cycle — birds must be fed for weeks before revenue arrives — so a five-year offset on working capital interest is a direct margin improvement rather than a one-off grant.
