About this subsidy
The National Livestock Mission's small ruminant component funds breed-development units in the sheep and goat sector. The Centre provides up to 50% of the project's capital cost as a subsidy, up to a ceiling of Rs. 50 lakh, released in two equal instalments.
The ceiling scales with the size of the breeding unit: Rs. 10 lakh for 100 females plus 5 males, Rs. 20 lakh for 200 females plus 10 males, Rs. 30 lakh for 300 plus 15, Rs. 40 lakh for 400 plus 20, and Rs. 50 lakh for a 500 female plus 25 male unit. Pick the unit size that matches your land, feed and market plan — the subsidy tracks it directly.
Individuals, Self Help Groups, Farmer Producer Organisations, Farmer Cooperatives, Joint Liability Groups and Section 8 companies can all apply through the NLM portal, with the balance of the project cost met from own funds and bank finance.
