About this subsidy
Under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), the Department of Fisheries supports establishment of need-based new brackish-water hatcheries for shellfish and finfish (item 1.6 of the scheme's activity list).
The benchmarked unit cost is ₹50.00 lakh per hatchery. Government assistance is ₹20.00 lakh for a general beneficiary and ₹30.00 lakh for an SC/ST/Women beneficiary, with the balance met by the promoter. Because the activity is 'need based', the State Fisheries Department will weigh local seed demand when appraising the proposal.
Applications are made through the State/UT Fisheries Department and sanctioned in the state's Annual Action Plan.
