The Seismic Arena is the tower model engineering challenge of Addovedi 2026, the annual technical festival of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Arunachal Pradesh. The event is held on campus from 28-30 October 2026 and challenges participants to design and build a model tower that can withstand a series of structural stress tests.
What it is
Build Tall. Build Smart. Survive the Shake. Teams construct a tower that must pass a looks test, a shake-and-water stability test, and a strength test. The challenge evaluates structural stability, bracing, damping, and centre of mass - core civil and structural engineering concepts applied in a hands-on, competitive format.
Who it's for
Undergraduate and graduate students of recognised institutions. A valid student ID is required. The event is open to all branches and allows inter-college and inter-specialisation teams, making it accessible to engineering students across disciplines.
Team and format
Materials and constraints
Only five materials are permitted: popsicle sticks, toothpicks, Fevicol, Fevi Quick, and thermocol. The frame must be built from sticks and toothpicks, while thermocol is allowed for the base plate only. The tower must stand at least 30 cm tall and include a top platform to carry the payload. Participants must bring their own materials and tools; the organisers provide none.
Registration
Sign up on the Addovedi website and register for The Seismic Arena to receive a Team ID, then register on Unstop with the Team ID and the leader's Addovedi ID. The registration fee is Rs. 50 per member (Rs. 50 for one, Rs. 100 for two, Rs. 150 for three). The registration deadline is 26 October 2026.
Prizes
A cash prize pool of Rs. 8,000, with total prizes worth Rs. 17,000 including hoodies.
Rules and judging
Originality is verified; plagiarism or fraudulent methods lead to immediate disqualification. Tampering with another team's structure or equipment is prohibited. Teams must arrive on time, as late arrivals may lose build or round time. Judges' and organisers' decisions are final, and rules may be modified with communication to participants.
