The LEAP Fund is a flagship funding initiative supported by BIRAC and administered through the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT) at IIT Delhi. It is designed to support high-potential startups operating in the biotechnology and healthcare sectors that have progressed beyond early-stage validation and are preparing for pilot deployment or early commercialization. The program specifically focuses on startups building innovative, IP-driven solutions that address critical unmet needs in healthcare and life sciences.
The fund provides equity-linked investment of up to ₹70 lakh, acting as a crucial bridge between proof-of-concept and market entry. This capital support enables startups to refine their products, conduct validation studies, navigate regulatory pathways, and accelerate commercialization timelines. The structure of the funding ensures alignment with long-term growth, as it is tied to the startup’s equity and future potential rather than being a non-dilutive grant.
In addition to financial support, selected startups gain access to IIT Delhi’s deep innovation ecosystem. This includes co-working spaces and advanced laboratory infrastructure, along with mentorship from experienced academicians, clinicians, and industry experts. Startups also receive guidance on regulatory compliance, clinical validation, intellectual property strategy, and business model development, all of which are critical for healthcare ventures.
