About this loan
The Artisan Credit Scheme, enhanced under the J&K Wool Processing, Handloom & Handicraft Policy 2020, is working capital credit for artisans running their own craft enterprises.
The Government has increased the existing loan amount from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakhs, and pairs it with an interest subvention of 10% for a period of 5 years. The subvention is the substantive benefit — it takes most or all of the commercial interest cost off a small artisan borrower for half a decade.
The loan itself is credit and must be repaid; the subvention reduces what it costs to carry. It is aimed at artisans buying raw material, tools and holding stock between selling seasons.

What You Get
A credit line for artisans enhanced from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakhs, carrying an interest subvention of 10% for a period of 5 years. The principal is a loan and is repayable to the lending bank; the 10% subvention is the government's contribution to the interest cost, applied for the first five years. For an artisan enterprise, this is the cheapest formal working capital available in the UT.
