About this loan
The scheme "PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi)" by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, aims to formalize street vendors and enhance their economic opportunities. Launched on June 1, 2020, as a central sector scheme, it provides collateral-free working capital loans, interest subsidy, and digital transaction incentives to street vendors. This support is designed to help vendors, including hawkers, thelewala, and rehriwala, restart and expand their small-scale vending businesses. The program also actively promotes digital payments to foster greater financial inclusion within this vital segment of the urban informal economy.
Street vendors play a significant role in ensuring the availability of goods and services at affordable rates at the doorstep of city dwellers. They are known by various names across different regions and contexts, supplying goods such as vegetables, fruits, ready-to-eat street food, tea, bread, eggs, textiles, apparel, footwear, artisan products, and books/stationary. They also provide services like barber shops, cobbler services, and laundry. PM SVANidhi seeks to formalize these vendors, open up new opportunities, and facilitate their movement up the economic ladder, thereby strengthening their contribution to the urban economy.

Selection Process
Applications submitted either online or offline are reviewed by the respective Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and designated lending institutions. The assessment primarily focuses on verifying the applicant's eligibility as a street vendor, confirming their identity, and validating their vending activity status through official documents like a Certificate of Vending or a Letter of Recommendation. For subsequent loan tranches, a record of timely repayment from previous loans is a key criterion. Final approval and loan disbursement are contingent upon the lending institution's due diligence and full compliance with the scheme's comprehensive guidelines.
