About this grant
The APFNet Call for Projects 2026 marks the first funding opportunity under APFNet's Fourth Strategic Plan (2026-2030), following a three-year hiatus. APFNet, a non-profit international organization established in 2008, is dedicated to advancing sustainable forest management and rehabilitation across the Asia-Pacific region. This call emphasizes innovative solutions for critical environmental and social challenges within the forestry sector. The program seeks to support initiatives that contribute significantly to climate action, biodiversity conservation, and inclusive livelihood development for communities reliant on forest ecosystems.
Priority thematic areas for this call include practical field demonstrations and robust capacity building initiatives. Field demonstration projects can focus on areas such as forest-landscape restoration, the implementation of climate-smart forestry solutions, biodiversity conservation efforts, and the application of cutting-edge digital forestry technologies, including AI, drones, and remote sensing. Capacity building initiatives aim to strengthen human and institutional capabilities through targeted training programs, scholarship opportunities, institutional assessments, technical assistance, and regional peer exchange platforms, fostering knowledge transfer and collaborative learning across member economies. The program aims to create a significant, positive impact on both environmental sustainability and socio-economic well-being in the region.

Timelines & Process
Selection Process
The selection process begins with the evaluation of concept notes submitted by applicants. These notes are reviewed for their alignment with APFNet's Fourth Strategic Plan, thematic priorities, feasibility, and potential impact. A critical aspect of this initial screening is the prior endorsement from the applicant's country's APFNet Council Representative, ensuring national relevance and government support. Only those concept notes that successfully pass this initial assessment are shortlisted. Shortlisted applicants are then formally invited to submit a more detailed and comprehensive full proposal. The full proposals undergo a rigorous evaluation by an APFNet selection committee, which assesses the project's technical merit, budget justification, implementation plan, monitoring and evaluation framework, and the capacity of the implementing organization. The final selection is based on the comprehensive strength of the full proposal and its potential to contribute to APFNet's objectives.
